A person was killed in a shooting that involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in Biddeford, Maine, on Monday, the second fatal shooting involving the agency in less than a week.<\/p>\n

The incident was first announced by state House Speaker Ryan Fecteau.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning a shooting occurred in Biddeford. A person was killed. ICE was involved. State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well,\u201d Fecteau, a Democrat, wrote<\/u><\/span> in a short statement on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Fecteau said he would continue to provide updates on the developing incident as he receives additional details. ICE and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

Jordan Wood, who recently launched a bid for one of Maine\u2019s U.S. Senate seats after Graham Platner\u2019s exit from the race, said he was also awaiting details on the shooting but called for strong action against ICE.<\/p>\n

\u201cICE is dangerously out of control and an embarrassment to our country. Abolish it and replace it with an agency that answers to the people,\u201d Wood wrote<\/u><\/span> Monday on X.<\/p>\n

Last week, ICE shot and killed Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who had lived in the U.S. for decades. Salgado Araujo was on the way to his construction job site in Houston.<\/p>\n

DHS, which oversees ICE, said officers stopped Salgado Araujo as part of a \u201ctargeted operation.\u201d Salgado Araujo \u201cweaponized his vehicle\u201d while attempting to flee the scene, according to the statement<\/u><\/span> DHS released about the incident.<\/p>\n

Salgado Araujo\u2019s family disputed DHS\u2019s account of his death. Mexican Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco \u00c1lvarez said Thursday the country wants to initiate \u201cforceful legal actions\u201d in response to the incident.<\/p>\n

The Mexican government is now seeking<\/u><\/span> criminal charges in the deaths of 17 Mexicans who died in U.S. custody or during immigration enforcement operations under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

At least 21 people have been shot at by federal immigration agents since last year, according to a report released Wednesday by The New York Times<\/u><\/span>. Five people have been killed in the shootings, including three U.S. citizens. The report does not include the individual killed in the ICE-involved shooting in Maine.<\/p>\n
