{"id":1226,"date":"2026-07-16T18:40:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T18:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1226"},"modified":"2026-07-16T18:40:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T18:40:24","slug":"trump-fires-u-s-attorney-in-seattle-within-60-minutes-of-his-appointment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1226","title":{"rendered":"Trump Fires U.S. Attorney in Seattle Within 60 Minutes of His Appointment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump fired the top federal prosecutor in Seattle within an hour of his unanimous appointment by the local district court on Wednesday, <span><u>the latest clash<\/u><\/span> between the Trump administration and the nation\u2019s judiciary over who should lead regional U.S. attorney\u2019s offices.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1222\">The Mystics\u2019 Sonia Citron Is an Unmistakable Star<\/a><\/p><p>Local federal judges appointed Roger Rogoff, a veteran prosecutor, as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington to replace interim Trump appointee Charles Neil Floyd.<\/p>\n<p>Floyd\u2019s interim tenure expired in February, but instead of pushing his nomination to the Senate for confirmation, the Trump administration changed his title to \u201cfirst assistant U.S. attorney\u201d and fired his replacement, effectively leaving Floyd in the job indefinitely.<\/p><p>It is a strategy the second Trump administration has used across the country to keep its handpicked prosecutors in positions of power \u2014 much to the vexation of the judiciary. By law, local district courts choose a temporary prosecutor to serve as U.S. attorneys after an interim appointment ends. Less than an hour later, as he waited in a lobby to meet with Floyd, Rogoff said, he received an email informing him he had been fired.<\/p><p>Rogoff said he was considering legal action to challenge his removal.<\/p><p>\u201cI\u2019m really proud of my career,\u201d Rogoff told the AP. \u201cThe fact that the judges of this district \u2014 most of whom I\u2019ve spent my career appearing in front of, or trying cases against, or working with \u2014 believed that I was the right person to do this work is just really humbling and amazing.\u201d<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1220\">What to Do in the D.C. Area This Weekend<\/a><\/p><p>Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who is <span><u>facing a confirmation hearing<\/u><\/span> in the Senate this week, said in a social media <span><u>post<\/u><\/span> that presidents have the authority to fire temporary appointees.<\/p><p>\u201c[Western District of Washington] judges abandoned the time-honored process of consultation with the administration so that the selected U.S. Attorney is qualified to serve in the administration,\u201d Blanche wrote. \u201cRoger Rogoff has been fired by the President.\u201d<\/p><p>Sen. Patty Murray (D-Washington), who had <span><u>opposed<\/u><\/span> Floyd\u2019s appointment, said Rogoff was \u201ceminently qualified\u201d for the position.<\/p><p>\u201cHe should have never been fired, but the President wants to appoint an out-of-touch extremist who will put Trump over the rule of law,\u201d Murray said in a <span><u>statement<\/u><\/span>. \u201cThis administration doesn\u2019t want to deal with advice and consent\u2014they just want to install cronies to carry out a corrupt political agenda.
