Allende, an under secretary for science and technology at the Department of Homeland Security, recently purchased five-figures worth of shares in an exchange-traded fund that prioritizes \u201cequity securities purchased or sold by members of Congress who are registered members of the Democratic Party and their family members,\u201d according to a .<\/p>\n<p>Known as the Unusual Whales Subversive Democratic Trading ETF, the fund uses the ticker symbol \u201cNANC\u201d \u2014 a not-so-oblique reference to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California), who Republicans have long lambasted for her husband\u2019s prodigious stock trading.<\/p><p>\u201cLet\u2019s also ensure that members of Congress cannot corruptly profit from using insider information,\u201d Trump said in February during his State of the Union address, then <span><u>quickly adding<\/u><\/span>: \u201cDid Nancy Pelosi stand up, if she\u2019s here? Among them were Rep. Cleo Fields (D-Louisiana), who  up to $45,000 worth of Nvidia stock last month, and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island), who traded shares he owned in Nvidia, Apple and Micron Technology.<\/p><p>Rep. Gil Cisneros (D-California)  shares of Advanced Micro Devices, Apple, Boston Scientific and GoDaddy.<\/p><p>The wife and dependent children of Rep. Ro Khanna (D-California) made  last month, including a host of tech- and science-related companies, such as Nvidia, Broadcom, Motorola Solutions, Apple, Micron Technology, IBM, Intel and <span><u>Palantir Technologies<\/u><\/span>.<\/p><p>And Pelosi\u2019s husband, the financier Paul Pelosi, purchased up to $5 million in Intel stock, and up to $1 million in Uber Technologies stock, on May 28.<\/p><p>In a statement to NOTUS, DHS said that Allende\u2019s investment in the Unusual Whales Subversive Democratic Trading ETF is \u201cconsistent with rules allowing government officials to invest in diversified and widely held ETFs such as this one, and it was reviewed and cleared by DHS ethics officials as part of their regular review of periodic transaction reports.\u201d<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1478\">Federal Appeals Court Upholds Peter Navarro\u2019s Criminal Conviction<\/a><\/p><p>Department officials did not answer specific questions about Allende\u2019s investment, including why he chose to invest his money in this fund and whether the investment presents a conflict of interest with his government work.<\/p>\n<p>In his July 2025 , signed before his Senate confirmation, Allende pledged to \u201cavoid any actual or apparent conflict of interest\u201d while serving as a Department of Homeland Security under secretary.<\/p><p>He would later sell off stocks that ethics officials considered potential conflicts, including shares in Apple, Palantir, Altria and ExxonMobil, according to a .<\/p><p>Unusual Whales is an <span><u>investment data platform<\/u><\/span> that advocates \u201cleveling the playing field for retail traders\u201d and provides regular analysis on the financial trading habits of elected officials, Democrats and Republicans alike.<\/p><p>\u201cInvest like the oligarchy,\u201d is how Unusual Whales <span><u>markets<\/u><\/span> its Subversive Democratic Trading ETF and related Unusual Whales Subversive Republican Trading ETF.<\/p><p>It is an \u201cinherent conflict of interest\u201d for someone in Allende\u2019s position to invest in the fund, said Dan Weiskopf, a senior portfolio manager for Tidal Financial Group, which oversees the Subversive Democratic Trading ETF.<\/p><p>\u201cI don\u2019t think they should be investing\u201d in it, Weiskopf said by phone, noting that the Democratic Trading ETF has outperformed the S&amp;P 500 index by more than 2 percentage points since its inception.<\/p><p>Allende is the latest in a string of top Trump administration officials who\u2019ve made notable personal financial trades or deals while serving in public office.<\/p><p>They include FBI Director <span><u>Kash Patel<\/u><\/span>, Ambassador to Israel <span><u>Mike Huckabee<\/u><\/span>, Ambassador to Italy <span><u>Tilman Fertitta<\/u><\/span>, Federal Highway Administration Administrator <span><u>Sean McMaster<\/u><\/span>, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia <span><u>Jeanine Pirro<\/u><\/span>, Environmental Protection Administration Assistant Administrator <span><u>Douglas Troutman<\/u><\/span> and former Department of Health and Human Services general counsel <span><u>Mike Stuart<\/u><\/span>.<\/p><p>Trump\u2019s own <span><u>personal finances<\/u><\/span>, which include numerous <span><u>individual stock<\/u><\/span>, <span><u>bond<\/u><\/span> and <span><u>cryptocurrency<\/u><\/span> <span><u>holdings<\/u><\/span>, have exploded in value since he began his second presidential term in January 2025.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1474\">Software Glitch Put Thousands of Noncitizens on New Jersey Voter Rolls<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The official is investing in a fund that uses the ticker \u201cNANC\u201d \u2014 as in Nancy Pelosi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1482,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1483","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-money"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
