{"id":1487,"date":"2026-07-21T21:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T21:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1487"},"modified":"2026-07-21T21:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T21:40:09","slug":"dhs-plans-to-spend-over-30-million-on-body-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1487","title":{"rendered":"DHS Plans to Spend Over $30 Million on Body Cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Department of Homeland Security plans to spend more than $30 million for body-worn cameras after the fatal shooting of two immigrants in the past two weeks renewed scrutiny of the Trump administration\u2019s aggressive enforcement approach.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1483\">A Top DHS Official Is Mimicking Congressional Democrats\u2019 Investments<\/a><\/p><p>DHS ordered body cameras from Axon Enterprise in two separate awards Friday, one for <span><u>$17.8 million<\/u><\/span> and another totaling <span><u>$13.1 million<\/u><\/span>. In June, the department also agreed to <span><u>spend $75,613 on body cameras<\/u><\/span> for investigations from Axon. Prior to that, DHS spent $5.1 million on body cameras from Axon in <span><u>March 2025<\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>DHS said the immigration agents were not wearing body cameras during the shootings in Houston and Biddeford, Maine. In the aftermath of the killings, DHS said agents who didn\u2019t have cameras would receive them in the next 60 days.<\/p><p>\u201c[Immigration and Customs Enforcement] will ensure each arrest team has an individual wearing a body camera,\u201d a DHS spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday about the awards. \u201cEnsuring all of our ICE law enforcement officers have body cameras nationwide is a top priority for DHS.\u201d<\/p>\n<section>\n<div>\n<h2>\n<span>Trending<\/span>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium_large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Sen. Chip Roy (R-Texas) saying they were already funded.<\/p><p>\u201cMy colleagues on the other side of the aisle stonewalled for about half of this year our ability to easily fund ICE and Border Patrol,\u201d Roy said.<\/p><p>Democrats in the committee responded that DHS had received billions in funding in 2025.<\/p><p>\u201cThe second piece of the revisionist history is the idea that the incredibly overfunded, well-funded \u2026 DHS hasn\u2019t been able to get body cams in place because Democrats blocked them?\u201d said Rep.
