Kennedy Jr. announced Tuesday.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1497\">CR Conundrum<\/a><\/p><p>The administration will withhold more than $867 million in payments from California and more than $200 million for Minnesota, officials said. It\u2019s the second time the administration is pausing large payments for the program for low-income Americans, which is run by states but partly funded by the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf those states want that money, they need to provide documentation that these payments are legitimate,\u201d Kennedy <span><u>said<\/u><\/span> at a press conference Tuesday.<\/p><p>Democrats have accused the administration of targeting blue states. Gavin Newsom\u2019s office referred NOTUS to a <span><u>post on X<\/u><\/span> that said the state offered to collaborate with the Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services \u201cin good faith\u201d to address fraud, and described Tuesday\u2019s action as \u201cthe same recycled political stunt we\u2019ve seen before.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cCalifornia isn\u2019t being targeted because Trump has evidence of fraud. We are being targeted for political reasons,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe are *SAVING* taxpayers money by keeping seniors and people with disabilities out of far more expensive nursing homes. We hate fraud.\u201d<\/p><p>Minnesota Gov. The Senate Might Squash It.<\/a><\/p><p>\u201cThe Trump Administration is cutting more money in healthcare than they\u2019ve prosecuted for fraud,\u201d he said in a statement to NOTUS. \u201cThe math doesn\u2019t add up. They\u2019re not punishing fraudsters, they\u2019re punishing children, seniors, working families, and people with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CMS announced earlier this year it was withholding more than $1.5 billion from California and Minnesota, citing high rates of fraud among hospice, home health care and daycare providers. Medicaid Director Dan Brillman said Tuesday those payments are still under review.<\/p><p>The federal government has always been able to defer federal Medicaid payments if they appear suspect, but the size of the payments currently being withheld is unprecedented, experts say.<\/p><p>The Trump administration has made tackling fraud in health care, housing and education programs a major part of its agenda ahead of the midterm elections.
