{"id":1556,"date":"2026-07-22T19:10:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T19:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1556"},"modified":"2026-07-22T19:10:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T19:10:40","slug":"epa-must-fund-environmental-grants-it-illegally-canceled-judge-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1556","title":{"rendered":"EPA Must Fund Environmental Grants It Illegally Canceled, Judge Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The <span><u>Environmental Protection Agency<\/u><\/span> must administer the Biden-era Environmental and Climate Justice Grants it illegally canceled last year, a federal judge  Wednesday.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1554\">Cornyn Backs Off His Threat to Sink Lake, Mastriano Nominations<\/a><\/p><p>Last month, U.S. District Judge Richard Mark Gergel found that the agency\u2019s DOGE-driven cuts to the $2.8 billion block grant program were \u201carbitrary and capricious and unlawful\u201d and <span><u>voided<\/u><\/span> the internal guidance that ordered the terminations.<\/p>\n<p>A coalition of cities and nonprofits brought the lawsuit against the EPA after it axed funding to their programs early last year. Following Gergel\u2019s ruling last month, the coalition argued in court that the order compels the agency to restore said funds.<\/p><p>The EPA in turn argued the order \u201cdoes not compel further order\u201d and clarifying that it must \u201ccomply with its statutory obligations to administer the ECJ Program through September 30, 2026\u201d \u2014 the date through which Congress funded the programs.<\/p><p>The grants, which were created as part of the Inflation Reduction Act under the Biden administration, went toward programs aimed at curbing carbon emissions, reducing pollution and
