The battle over the SAVE America Act ratcheted up a few notches Thursday as the White House and Senate Majority Leader John Thune traded barbs over the lack of progress on the voting bill that President Donald Trump considers his top priority.<\/p>

Trump\u2019s frustrations about the stalled legislation have simmered for months but took a sharp turn Wednesday. At a rally in Georgia, he panned the upper chamber as \u201ca place you send things when you want them to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it was a back-and-forth between White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Thune that really added gas to the fire. When Leavitt was pressed about the Republican leader, she told reporters that the president\u2019s \u201cpatience is running out\u201d \u2014 comments that did not sit well with Thune.<\/p>

\u201cShe or somebody else ought to get on the phone and get the votes, right?\u201d the mild-mannered Thune shot back. \u201cSo instead of pointing the finger at Republicans, they might think about going after the people who are stopping it on the floor, which is the Democrats. And if there are Republicans that they think are gettable, get on the phone. Let\u2019s get them to \u2018yes.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
