John Cornyn said he will meet with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Wednesday about killing President Donald Trump\u2019s controversial settlement fund \u2014 a requirement for the Texas Republican to vote for his confirmation this week.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1880\">Beshear Pushes McConnell to Resign or \u2018Provide Proof\u2019 He\u2019s Fit to Serve<\/a><\/p><p>\u201cI told him we need paper. We need it in writing. We don\u2019t need well wishes or, you know, impressions,\u201d the Texas Republican told reporters Tuesday afternoon. \u201cWe need concrete confirmation of what he testified to in his hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn is a key swing vote on the Senate Judiciary Committee, split 12-10 between Republicans and Democrats. An even break would effectively kill the nomination.<\/p><p>\u201cFake news alert: there is no \u2018deal\u2019 on Blanche nom. They better not have said for one minute that the people that beat up police officers \u2026 were righteous people,\u201d Tillis <span><u>said<\/u><\/span> in June. \u201cYou come even close to saying that, you don\u2019t have a [chance] of getting my vote in Judiciary.\u201d<\/p><p>Blanche has repeatedly <span><u>told senators<\/u><\/span> that the proposed $1.8 billion \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund, part of Trump\u2019s settlement with the IRS, is dead and won\u2019t be coming back. But Cornyn has pointed out that Blanche has acknowledged that <span><u>the proposed \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund<\/u><\/span> remains on paper as part of the settlement with Trump.<\/p><p>\u201cWhat I want is the written document to say the same thing he did in his sworn testimony in front of the Judiciary Committee, and, as you recall, what he said is the weaponization fund is dead.
