Law Firm Details Theft From Political Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A thief stole, then altered, multiple political contribution checks sent through the mail by the political action committee of a major Washington-based law firm, according to a  NOTUS reviewed.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1958\">Chris Murphy Demands Answers From Education Department Over Disputed Civics Competition<\/a><\/p><p>The unidentified thief stole two of the checks from a batch of political donation payments the Arnold &amp; Porter Kaye Scholer LLP\u2019s PAC mailed in D.C.\u2019s upscale Cleveland Park neighborhood on Nov. 24, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Arnold &amp; Porter subsequently increased its security protocols, enrolling in Truist bank\u2019s fraud inspector program, which generates an email to the committee \u201cevery time a payment is debited from its bank account,\u201d allowing the PAC to dispute any unauthorized payments.<\/p><p>Arnold &amp; Porter\u2019s Wednesday letter to the Federal Election Commission provides these and other new details about the theft, which <span><u>NOTUS first revealed in June<\/u><\/span>. Townsend, told the FEC that the thief altered one check intended for the campaign committee of Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-New York). After stealing the check, the thief changed the written value \u2014 $1,000 \u2014 to $40,000 and made it out to \u201cGleora Agoj\u201d with \u201cAdvisory Asistant fee\u201d written on the memo line.<\/p><p>The name on the check does not appear to be affiliated with Arnold &amp; Porter. The Meeks campaign never received the funds, according to the memo.<\/p><p>Another check addressed to the American Mosaic PAC, a committee focused on increasing diversity in Congress, was altered from $2,500 to $20,953.<\/p>\n<p>The Arnold &amp; Porter PAC discovered \u201cthat at least one check, and possibly more, had not been received by the intended recipients\u201d and put \u201cstop-payment requests\u201d on the disbursements to Meeks\u2019 campaign and the American Mosaic PAC.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1954\">More Migrant Kids Are Getting Removal Orders. Some Could Lose Their Attorneys Too.<\/a><\/p><p>The law firm, which is headquartered in D.C., called Truist on May 1 after it noticed multiple unauthorized payments and the \u201ctwo suspicious check deposits pending\u201d while compiling its monthly financial report to the FEC.<\/p><p>The bank assured Arnold &amp; Porter that the committee\u2019s account would not be charged, but the $40,000 was still taken from the PAC\u2019s funds.
