{"id":1971,"date":"2026-07-30T05:07:54","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T05:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1971"},"modified":"2026-07-30T05:07:54","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T05:07:54","slug":"trump-announces-22-billion-renovation-for-impossible-dulles-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1971","title":{"rendered":"Trump Announces $22 Billion Renovation for \u2018Impossible\u2019 Dulles Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump shared plans on Wednesday for a massive, $22 billion construction and renovation project at Washington Dulles International Airport.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=1969\">Boozman Plans Senate Farm Bill Markup Without Clear Bipartisan Deal<\/a><\/p><p>The president, who\u2019s pushing forward on projects to revamp iconic sites around Washington, D.C., showcased a scale model and pictures of the proposed new hub that would do away with the infamous \u201cpeople movers,\u201d add thousands of parking stalls and replace entire terminals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are announcing plans to add more than 5 million square feet of new or renovated space,\u201d Trump said in the Oval Office. \u201cWe\u2019ll replace the current C and D concourses, which are basic disasters, all the while preserving the iconic original terminal.\u201d<\/p><p>The architect Eero Saarinen completed the original terminal in 1962, the same year the airport, about 25 miles west of Washington, opened. She Might Win Anyway.\n                    <\/span>\n<\/h3><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>Trump described Saarinen as \u201cone of the great architects of the world,\u201d but said the original terminal was both an \u201casset and a liability\u201d because \u201cnobody wanted to build anything near it.\u201d<\/p><p>The airport could also get a new 32,000-space parking garage, which Trump said will be the largest in the world. The current <span><u>largest parking complex<\/u><\/span> is in Edmonton, Canada, with parking for about 20,000 vehicles.<\/p><p>United Airlines, which has a major hub at Dulles, <span><u>described<\/u><\/span> the timeline for the project as being completed \u201cover the next decade.\u201d Construction could start in the spring.<\/p><p>The project proposes do away with the fleet of people movers, which function like buses, transporting flyers between terminals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an impossible airport.
