President Donald Trump abruptly ended an interview<\/u><\/span> with NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d after a tense exchange with host Kristen Welker over Trump\u2019s claims the 2020 election was \u201crigged,\u201d as was California\u2019s recent primary election.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour elections are crooked, and you\u2019re crooked, and \u2018Meet the Press\u2019 is crooked. And so is ABC and CBS and CNN. You\u2019re one-sided, crooked networks. Let\u2019s call it quits. Because I\u2019ve had enough. Thank you darling,\u201d Trump said to Welker before ending the interview and leaving the set.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the discussion, Welker pressed Trump on his $1.8 billion \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund<\/u><\/span> and whether he plans to revive the controversial compensation pool for people who claimed to have been unfairly investigated by the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonally, I think the weaponization fund is a great idea, and so do many other Republicans,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

The fund faced bipartisan pushback<\/u><\/span> from members of Congress and was temporarily blocked by a judge before acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Department of Justice would not move forward<\/u><\/span> with its creation. The fund was left out of the bill text for the reconciliation package passed<\/u><\/span> by the Senate last week \u2014 though senators did not pass an amendment that would have barred the fund from being revived.<\/p>\n

The president blamed the media for the fund\u2019s demise.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love the idea, because people like you, the fake dirty press, the crooked press, people like stupid Biden, he\u2019s not smart enough to know what\u2019s going on, but people that surrounded him, surrounded his beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, what they did to the lives of people, they destroyed people,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

Welker pushed back on these claims, saying there was \u201cno evidence\u201d to support them. The president then went into a discussion about his belief that the 2020 election was rigged.<\/p>\n

Welker asked Trump about whether individuals who participated in the attack at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and pleaded guilty to subsequent charges should have access to the fund.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey pled guilty because they were frightened,\u201d Trump said, claiming that \u201cpeople were destroyed by dirty cops and by weaponization.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the interview intensified, so did what Welker described<\/u><\/span> as \u201cweather issues\u201d in Wisconsin where the pre-taped interview took place. The conversation was paused multiple times as heavy rain hitting the barn\u2019s roof made it difficult for the pair to hear each other.<\/p>\n
