THE LATEST<\/b><\/h2>\n

Donald Trump says he supports the efforts of Bill Pulte,<\/b> his controversial pick for acting director of national intelligence, to make steep cuts<\/u><\/span> to the intelligence community, saying the number of people working in those jobs has been \u201cway too high for way too long.\u201d<\/p>\n

A federal judge struck down the sweeping immigration freeze<\/b> implemented by the Trump administration following the shooting of two National Guard troops deployed to D.C. last November.<\/p>\n

John J. McConnell Jr.<\/b>, a U.S. district judge in Rhode Island,ruled that the freeze<\/u><\/span> \u201cplaced the lives of countless individuals on hold \u2014 solely by virtue of their countries of birth.\u201d The New York Times called the ruling \u201csearing<\/u><\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

A good jobs report for the White House<\/b> set Trumpworld social media accounts buzzing. \u201cThanks to Trumponomics the U.S. economy is hotter than the New York Knicks!,\u201d Trump ally Stephen Moore<\/b> posted<\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The numbers:<\/b> Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 172,000 in May, the BLS said<\/u><\/span>. The figure is \u201cfar above the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 80,000,\u201d CNBC reported<\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The caveats: <\/b>\u201cWage growth slowed from 3.6% in April to 3.4% in May. That leaves it further below the latest inflation reading of 3.8%,\u201d the FT reported<\/u><\/span>, \u201csuggesting that real wages are shrinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

THE HILL<\/b><\/h2>\n

The \u201cDepartment of War\u201d rebrand <\/b>could become permanent<\/u><\/span>. The House Armed Services Committee voted late last night to pass a sweeping defense policy bill authorizing $1.15 trillion in military programs, and it included a proposal to change the name of the Department of Defense to Trump\u2019s preferred descriptor.<\/p>\n

THE STATES<\/b><\/h2>\n

Ballot counting is still continuing in California,<\/b> and the latest numbers show that Republican reality TV star Spencer Pratt<\/b> is locked in a close race with progressive Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman <\/b>over who will take on Mayor Karen Bass <\/b>in the general election.<\/p>\n

Reality check:<\/b> Even if he does make it out of the jungle primary, the cold, hard math of the Los Angeles electorate makes a Pratt administration nearly impossible, Maeve Reston writes for NOTUS<\/u><\/span>. California elections data expert Paul Mitchell<\/b> told Maeve: \u201cIt\u2019s like he\u2019s the best rapper in a country bar.\u201d<\/p>\n

THE DISTRICT<\/b><\/h2>\n

The race to become D.C.\u2019s House delegate,<\/b> a job with basically no real power, is now the most expensive on record with $2.5 million spent and more than $3 million raised, NOTUS\u2019 Taylor Giorno reports<\/u><\/span>. These figures may not wow the jaded veterans of our billion-dollar-campaign era, but remember, the latest Board of Elections figures found there are just 363,162 people<\/u><\/span> registered to vote in the closed Democratic primary.<\/p>\n
