Courtroom Pushed to Its Limit Under Trump\n                    <\/span>\n<\/h3><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>There, in courtroom C-10, was the usual snapshot of societal challenges that bring people in contact with police and jail: violence, addiction, mental illness, poverty. But the cases that day also showcased Trump\u2019s effect on D.C.\u2019s court system.<\/p><p>Last August, he declared <span><u>a crime emergency<\/u><\/span> in D.C., seized temporary control of the city police department and flooded the streets with federal agents. <b>Jeanine Pirro<\/b>, whom he appointed the city\u2019s top prosecutor, ordered the lawyers in her office to seek the toughest possible charges for street crime in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p><p>What happened in the aftermath? More police stops, more felony charges filed in court and more people locked up in the D.C. Jail.<\/p><p>A year later, that heavy policing and prosecution continues \u2014 and the records from the Aug. 3 court appearances show it: In those cases where court filings were publicly available, federal officers were present for half of the arrests. A quarter of the charging documents Jenny was able to review specifically stated that officers were patrolling as part of Trump\u2019s \u201cD.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force,\u201d the team he created last year to intensify policing in the District.<\/p><h2><b>FROM THE DISTRICT<\/b><\/h2><div>\n<\/div><p><b>Capital One Arena<\/b> <b>is getting a new look. <\/b>New renderings <span><u>released<\/u><\/span> Tuesday give fans a glimpse at the reimagined stadium\u2019s exterior, food hall and an immersive video wall, <span><u>Axios D.C. reports<\/u><\/span>. The three-year renovation is set to finish next fall.<\/p>\n<p><b>Janeese Lewis George wants to hear from you. <\/b>The winner of June\u2019s Democratic primary will <span><u>hold listening sessions<\/u><\/span> in each of the city\u2019s eight wards starting in early September. She says the sessions are to \u201chear what\u2019s working, what needs to change, and what you want your government to do better.\u201d<\/p><p><b>A corner store on Capitol Hill has been brought back to life \u2014 by its neighbors. <\/b>Mott\u2019s Market just south of Lincoln Park is now officially back in business, after a topsy-turvy sale and renovation that was funded in large part by 100 nearby residents who didn\u2019t want to see the century-old neighborhood staple disappear. City Cast D.C. has the <span><u>heartwarming story<\/u><\/span>.<\/p><p><b>Mayor Muriel Bowser praised the Commanders\u2019<\/b> choice of contractors to build out the team\u2019s new $3.8 billion stadium, which was <span><u>announced<\/u><\/span> Tuesday as a joint venture between D.C.\u2019s Clark Construction, Mortenson and Smoot Construction.<\/p><p>\u201cThis is the team that will get it done \u2014 they have extensive experience in DC and a proven track record with building iconic sports venues,\u201d Bowser said in a statement. \u201cWith this decision, we\u2019re one step closer to transforming 180 acres of land on the banks of the Anacostia into a Super Bowl-ready stadium, and then housing, entertainment, park space, and more.\u201d<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=2453\">The Democratic Establishment Strikes Back in Wisconsin<\/a><\/p><h2><b>FROM VIRGINIA<\/b><\/h2><p><b>An ICE agent<\/b> <b>pulled a gun<\/b> on a Virginia woman as she drove through a Falls Church parking lot on Monday, <span><u>NBC4 reports<\/u><\/span>. Throughout camp, defensive players have lauded Jones\u2019 teaching ability and principles.
