THE LATEST<\/b><\/h2>\n

A vote-a-rama is underway <\/b>in the Senate, and Republicans rejected<\/u><\/span> an amendment to block Donald Trump<\/b>\u2019s \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund. The three GOP senators who voted with Democrats, Susan Collins<\/b> (Maine), Dan Sullivan<\/b> (Alaska) and Jon Husted<\/b> (Ohio), all face competitive reelection bids.<\/p>\n

Sen. Bill Cassidy<\/b> (R-Louisiana) voted against the amendment despite his recent primary loss to a Trump-backed candidate and a legal brief he filed with Sen. Cory Booker<\/b> (D-New Jersey) challenging the fund.<\/p>\n

Senators also overwhelmingly voted down Sen. Thom Tillis<\/b>\u2019 (R-North Carolina) amendment that would use the $1.8 billion fund to instead fight fraud.<\/p>\n

THE ADMINISTRATION<\/b><\/h2>\n

Trump\u2019s former national security adviser,<\/b> John Bolton<\/b>, agreed to plead guilty<\/u><\/span> in the Justice Department\u2019s case against him for retaining classified information. The agreement reduces the counts Bolton faces from 18 to just one and levies a $2.25 million fine.<\/p>\n

A government watchdog group sued <\/b>ICE, Customs and Border Protection and DHS. American Oversight is seeking<\/u><\/span> access to autopsy reports and other internal reviews connected to the deaths of people in federal immigration custody.<\/p>\n

Trump plans to nominate Todd Blanche<\/b> to serve<\/u><\/span> as attorney general, a role he\u2019s held in an acting capacity since Pam Bondi<\/b> departed<\/u><\/span> from the DOJ in April.<\/p>\n

Coal is getting a boost,<\/b> with Trump funneling<\/u><\/span> about $700 million in federal funding in an attempt to revitalize the declining power sector. Some of the money would fund the construction of two new coal units. The last new coal plant to come onto the U.S. power grid was in 2013.<\/p>\n

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool<\/b> is being refilled<\/u><\/span> after more than two months of renovation.<\/p>\n

THE HILL<\/b><\/h2>\n

Congress\u2019 largest office complex,<\/b> the Rayburn House Office Building, has not been fully renovated since it opened in 1965, but the $9 billion plan<\/u><\/span> to avert what Thomas Austin<\/b>, the architect of the Capitol, warned Congress could be \u201ccatastrophic system failures\u201d keeps being pushed back.<\/p>\n

THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL<\/b><\/h2>\n

Three women Graham Platner previously dated<\/b> described the embattled Maine U.S. Senate candidate\u2019s behavior as \u201cunsettling\u201d in a report from The New York Times<\/u><\/span>. In extensive interviews, the women described the emotional toll of Platner\u2019s alleged heavy drinking and infidelity.<\/p>\n

The New York State Assembly<\/b> passed<\/u><\/span> a constitutional amendment that puts the state on a path to redraw its congressional lines to net Democrats up to four U.S. House seats \u2014 but not until 2028.<\/p>\n

THE COURTS<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Supreme Court<\/b> sided<\/u><\/span> with the FCC on its authority to enforce data privacy laws against cell-phone companies. The court also backed<\/u><\/span> the broad authority of the SEC to recoup \u201cill-gotten gains\u201d from individuals who engaged in securities fraud.<\/p>\n
