Jean Carroll Payout"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Supreme Court  Monday to consider President Donald Trump\u2019s attempt to overturn the $5 million verdict from a jury that found he sexually abused the writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s and later defamed her.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=2633\">UK Prime Minister Texted With a Susie Wiles Impersonator<\/a><\/p><p>This is the second time Trump asked the Supreme Court to consider his appeal. The president will have to pay the more than $5 million in damages he owes Carroll stemming from a 2023 civil trial that found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation.<\/p>\n<p>The high court denied Trump\u2019s request \u2014 along with a list of other cases \u2014 as part of its scheduled \u201csummer order lists.\u201d The justices did not provide any explanation for why they declined to take up Trump\u2019s appeal, which is consistent with Supreme Court practice.<\/p><p>Trump had asked the Supreme Court to  his appeal because it\u2019s connected to a judgment of $83 million against the president in a separate defamation case filed by Carroll. The columnist alleged Trump sexually assaulted her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in 1996 and detailed the incident in her 2019 <span><u>memoir<\/u><\/span>. Trump has vigorously denied the accusation, telling a reporter from <span><u>The Hill<\/u><\/span> in 2019 that \u201cshe\u2019s not my type.\u201d<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=2631\">\u2018Graveyard for Grants\u2019: NIH Is Holding Up Medical Research Funding<\/a><\/p><p>Trump has now exhausted his appeals in this case, and lawyers for Carroll told <span><u>The Associated Press<\/u><\/span> she had collected the full judgement last month.<\/p><p>\u201cThe Eagle has landed,\u201d Carroll <span><u>wrote on X<\/u><\/span>, shortly after the news broke that she received the compensatory damages.<\/p><p>In a court filing submitted after the Supreme Court issued its first rejection of the president\u2019s appeal on June 29, Carroll\u2019s lawyers argued that Trump had hindered payment by \u201cslow-roll[ing] his defenses, asserting or inventing a new one each time his prior effort to delay the case fails.\u201d<\/p><p>Trump maintains that Carroll falsified the accusation.<\/p><p>\u201cI\u2019ve never met this person in my life,\u201d Trump said in a  in 2019. \u201cShe is trying to sell a new book; that should indicate her motivation.
