That theory appears to have actually been correct in Florida, but it was the fight itself the strategists were wrong about. Nixon is another full-throated critic of Israel, another candidate promising structural change, another one unafraid to say her own party\u2019s leaders have fallen short.<\/p><p>This is the kind of resistance a lot of Democratic voters are interested in \u2014 and they want everyone to know it.<\/p><p><b>But not all of them. <\/b>It was a good night for other mainline Democrats in Florida. Rep. <b>Debbie Wasserman Schultz <\/b>absolutely <span><u>crushed the field<\/u><\/span> in her closely watched primary, while centrist Rep. <b>Jared Moskowitz <\/b>made easy work of his own DSA-backed challenger.<\/p><p><b>Republicans basically got the results the party wanted.<\/b> Rep. <b>Byron Donalds <\/b>won the gubernatorial primary handily, and the incendiary <b>James Fishback<\/b> came in a distant third. Embattled Rep. <b>Cory Mills <\/b><span><u>lost his primary<\/u><\/span>. But another candidate Trump endorsed went down, this time in the 19th Congressional District. Local media owner <b>Jim Schwartzel <\/b><span><u>won that<\/u><\/span> primary.<\/p><p><b>Oh, one other thing: <\/b>There were very few polls of the Democratic Senate primary, so this time the prediction markets got called out for being Wrong. And wrong they <span><u>really were<\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Open tabs:<\/b> <span><u>DOJ Plans to Deploy a \u2018Historic Number\u2019 of Midterm Election Monitors<\/u><\/span> (NOTUS); <span><u>US Navy destroyer with 300 sailors aboard broke down for four days in the Pacific<\/u><\/span> (AP); <span><u>Arrest warrant issued then dropped for Jill Stein<\/u><\/span> (NY Post); <span><u>FBI: 2025 had biggest violent-crime drop in 90 years<\/u><\/span> (Axios)<\/p><h2><b>From South Carolina<\/b><\/h2><p><b>Going negative: <\/b>Sen. <b>Darline Graham<\/b> of South Carolina has not been in the job long, but she quipped like a pro last night during the Republican Senate runoff debate. \u201cI think you\u2019re confused because I don\u2019t know if you want to be in South Carolina or Washington, because you said you wanted to go to Washington to clean up the swamp, then you wanted to come back to South Carolina to run for governor,\u201d she said to her opponent, Rep. <b>Ralph Norman<\/b>. \u201cNow you want to go back to Washington again to clean up the swamp.\u201d<\/p><p>And that was the nice Graham. The debate crowd actually gasped when she said to Norman, \u201cApparently you hired illegal immigrants,\u201d as part of a back-and-forth about education. Norman appeared rattled, and dismissed it as \u201ca Democrat talking line.\u201d<\/p><p><b>Also dismissing Graham: many pro-lifers. <\/b>A rift in the anti-abortion movement is playing out over who its best advocate is in the runoff, <span><u>NOTUS\u2019 Oriana Gonz\u00e1lez reports<\/u><\/span>.<\/p><h2><b>From the campaign trail<\/b><\/h2><p><b>First on NOTUS: A Democrat runs against everybody in Montana. <\/b>\u201cWhile politicians in both parties get rich on our backs, our problems only get worse,\u201d Democrat <b>Sam Forstag<\/b> says in <span><u>a new TV ad<\/u><\/span> hitting the airwaves in Montana\u2019s 1st Congressional District today, NOTUS\u2019 Christa Dutton tells us. Forstag is running to replace Republican Rep. <b>Ryan Zinke<\/b>, and is a big part of Democrats\u2019 hopes of rebuilding a base in rural states.<\/p><p><b>Trend alert: Democrats with Republican friends. <\/b>Democratic candidates in red and purple places are turning to Republican validators to help them win statewide contests, <span><u>NOTUS\u2019 Igor Bobic reports<\/u><\/span>. \u201cEndorsements overall are overrated,\u201d <b>Jeff Flake<\/b>, the former Republican senator from Arizona who just endorsed Sen. <b>Jon Ossoff<\/b> (D-Georgia), told Igor. \u201cBut cross-party endorsements can help and have helped in the past.\u201d<\/p><h2><b>From the Hill<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Rep. Nick Begich\u2019s big Congress:<\/b> The Alaska Republican freshman has gotten six bills to the president\u2019s desk so far this Congress, which is more than anyone else in the current session. <span><u>NOTUS\u2019 Mark Alfred spoke to<\/u><\/span> the 119th\u2019s most successful lawmaker \u2014 and Begich had his talking points ready to go: \u201cWe\u2019ve received a lot of cooperation and recognition on both sides of the aisle that Alaska-specific issues really belong in the hands of the Alaskan that was sent to Congress to represent Alaska,\u201d he said.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=2737\">Commanders\u2019 Rasul Douglas Is Good at Getting Up to Speed<\/a><\/p><h2><b>THE BIG ONE<\/b><\/h2><p><b>Primary Complaints.<\/b> \u201cLet\u2019s put this way: I think there\u2019s a tendency for challengers in congressional elections to want the public to come to believe that history started on the day they were born,\u201d Rep. <b>Richard Neal<\/b>, a Democrat who has represented Massachusetts in Congress since 1989, told <span><u>NOTUS\u2019 Kate Nocera recently<\/u><\/span>.<\/p><p><b>It\u2019s a portrait of a party elder who has had just about enough with the Democratic fight about age. <\/b>Neal has his own young, progressive challenger: high school teacher <b>Jeromie Whalen<\/b>. Whalen is 39, Neal is 77. Whalen says Neal has become the embodiment of Washington and is MIA in the district.<\/p><p>Neal is unbothered, pointing to the millions of dollars he\u2019s directed to Western Massachusetts. \u201cI mean, it\u2019s what every challenger says,\u201d he told Kate. \u201cThere\u2019s not a lot of evidence to support it.\u201d<\/p><p><b>This posture has worked for Neal when it hasn\u2019t for other longtime Democrats. <\/b>Will it work this cycle? Whalen\u2019s doing the thing \u2014 large social media profile, field-heavy campaigning, generally showing off his youthful energy \u2014 but he\u2019s on his own. The national groups that have backed progressive upstarts are leaving Neal alone. Whalen, too, is unbothered. \u201cLook, <b>AOC<\/b> beat <b>Joe Crowley<\/b> and only raised $300,000, and that was in <i>New York City<\/i>,\u201d he said.<\/p><p><b>Which style of hubris will win out? <\/b>We\u2019ll have to wait until the Sept. 1 primary. There\u2019s zero public polling of the race so far. Whalen says he can pull it off. Neal has never even uttered Whalen\u2019s name publicly once. That alone is a dramatic exodus outpacing the turnover of any other recent administration, <span><u>NOTUS\u2019 Jeff Stein reports<\/u><\/span>.
