Could Receive Up to $130 Million From Meta as Part of Massive Settlement<\/a><\/p><p>The Tuesday ruling by U.S. District Judge David Hittner bars Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is currently running for Senate, from enforcing a law signed by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2023 that targeted \u201csexually oriented\u201d performances in front of minors. Abbott touted the law as a ban on public drag shows \u2014 an activity <span><u>increasingly targeted<\/u><\/span> by right-wing figures in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Under Texas\u2019 law, businesses that hosted drag shows would receive civil penalties while performers would be criminally penalized.<\/p><p>Hittner, a Reagan appointee, also denied Paxton\u2019s motion for a new trial on the case. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals later returned the case to him with instructions to reevaluate a select number of details.
