Rep. Joyce Beatty said in a court filing attempting to block changes to the Kennedy Center that the Trump administration is threatening to destroy<\/u><\/span> the fabled performing arts center if it doesn\u2019t get its way.<\/p>

\u201cIn plain English, Defendants have not-so-subtly said: \u2018What a nice Kennedy Center you have here. What a shame should something happen to it,\u2019\u201d Beatty\u2019s lawyers wrote in a motion <\/u><\/span>Wednesday. \u201cThis is a breathtaking assault on the rule of law. It is delusional. And it must stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beatty, an Ohio Democrat and an ex officio member of the Kennedy Center\u2019s board of trustees, said in her motion that Trump\u2019s team is misleading the court about the financial losses at the center and, in fact, it\u2019s Trump\u2019s actions that have caused the drop in patronage and donations.<\/p>

The filing is part of an effort to halt Trump from emblazoning his name on the center, which was blocked by a federal judge. The center\u2019s board, installed with Trump allies, then voted<\/u><\/span> on Aug. 13 to shut down the facility for up to two years to carry out a $250 million renovation project.<\/p>
