{"id":3293,"date":"2026-09-01T17:39:58","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T17:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=3293"},"modified":"2026-09-01T17:39:58","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T17:39:58","slug":"u-s-job-openings-rose-slightly-in-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=3293","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Job Openings Rose Slightly in July"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><i>By Paul Wiseman<\/i><\/p><p>Employers posted slightly more job openings in July but the American labor market remained sturdy in the face of <span>higher costs<\/span> that are squeezing household budgets.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=3289\">U.S. Strikes Targets in Iran as Hostilities Flare Up Once Again<\/a><\/p>\n<p>U.S. job openings ticked up to 7.27 million in July from a revised 7.18 million in June, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.<\/p><p>The department\u2019s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) also showed that layoffs fell. But so did the number of people quitting their jobs \u2014 a sign of confidence in their prospects. The figure \u2014 which was dragged down by job losses in February and July \u2014 is unimpressive. But it\u2019s an improvement on 2025 when job growth came in below 10,000 a month \u2014 weakest hiring outside a recession since 2002 \u2014 as the lingering effect of high interest rates and uncertainty caused by Trump\u2019s tariffs discouraged firms from hiring.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=3287\">Abdul El-Sayed Says Mike Rogers Has Been a \u2018Beta His Whole Life\u2019<\/a><\/p><p>But if U.S. employers aren\u2019t hiring much, at least they aren\u2019t firing much either.
