Suggests Renaming the Strait of Hormuz"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump on Wednesday proposed naming the Strait of Hormuz after himself, a move that comes as he attempts to leave his mark on the global stage by renaming international bodies of water.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=3382\">Air Force Probing Iran War Widow\u2019s \u2018Missing\u2019 Benefits<\/a><\/p><p>\u201cNow that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???\u201d Trump wrote on <span><u>Truth Social<\/u><\/span>. \u201cLike America itself, it would be \u201chotter\u201d than ever before!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The strait, through which <span><u>one-fifth<\/u><\/span> of the world\u2019s oil passed before the war, remains a critical waterway for the global oil supply.<\/p><p>Unlike some of Trump\u2019s previous efforts to rename bodies of water that are inside or border the U.S., the Strait of change the name of Lake Ontario to \u201cLake America.\u201d The controversial decision has drawn criticism, <span><u>including from northern state Republicans<\/u><\/span> whose jurisdictions border Circulation<\/a><\/p><p>Despite the pushback, some tech giants are following the president\u2019s lead. <span><u>Apple Maps, for example, acquiesced<\/u><\/span> to the name change this week after the president personally reached out to the company. Google Maps changed the lake\u2019s name shortly after Trump\u2019s order last week.<\/p><p>He <span><u>also renamed<\/u><\/span> the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America earlier in his term \u2014 and though the change is reflected on Apple Maps, it is <span><u>not widely recognized<\/u><\/span> by Mexico or other countries.<\/p><p>Trump has <span><u>repeatedly said<\/u><\/span> that the U.S. has control of the Strait of Hormuz since the onset of the war in February \u2014 despite many instances of Iranian forces taking military action in the waterway.<\/p><p>The U.S. <span><u>resumed major strikes<\/u><\/span> against Iran earlier this week and targeted assets in the strait.
