An increasing number of Republicans say they plan to skip President Donald Trump\u2019s midterm convention next week in Dallas, which has been dubbed \u201cTrumpapalooza\u201d by the Republican National Committee.<\/p>

The convention, which is set to kick off on Wednesday, carries a high price tag for lawmakers, with House members reportedly expected to contribute $25,000 each to attend<\/u><\/span>. And it\u2019s unclear whether attending a spectacle revolving around Trump will be beneficial for those Republicans locked in tight midterm contests after the president\u2019s approval rating hit record lows last month<\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Sen. Mike Rounds, who\u2019s up for reelection in South Dakota, told reporters earlier this week that he plans to skip the event because he\u2019s meeting with constituents across his state.<\/p>

\u201cThat\u2019s up to the folks that want to put it on,\u201d Rounds said when asked if it\u2019s a good idea for Republicans to put on a multimillion-dollar spectacle while voters grapple with rising costs. \u201cThis year, I\u2019m spending as much time as I can in South Dakota talking to folks that do have concerns. Affordability is one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
