DeSantis Says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that the \u201cAlligator Alcatraz\u201d immigration detention center has permanently closed and the detainees have been relocated.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/modernhomejournals.com\/?p=684\">A Judge Won\u2019t Drop the Lawsuit Against Trump\u2019s \u2018Anti-Weaponization\u2019 Fund<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Officials announced a temporary closure of the facility earlier this month, sending all detainees to other facilities because hurricane season made it unsafe to keep them at the remote facility in the Everglades. The DeSantis administration opened the center last July, and 21,000 people have been deported through the facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlligator Alcatraz fulfilled the role that it was designed to serve,\u201d Desantis said at a press conference, flanked by President Donald Trump\u2019s border czar, Tom Homan, and state immigration official Anthony Coke. \u201cIt now has zero detainees.
