President Donald Trump said he plans to nominate acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao to hold the post permanently.

“The Senate needs to confirm this Warfighter, ASAP, so he can continue the fantastic work he has been doing over the past 4 months,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Tuesday.
Cao was elevated to acting secretary in April when John Phelan abruptly stepped down.

The Pentagon has seen a number of high-profile departures and removals during Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s tenure. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll submitted his resignation on Monday and is expected to leave the role in the coming days.
