Trump’s Super PAC Drops $10 Million in Texas Senate Race

Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., spent $10 million this week to support Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his tight Senate race, a financial disclosure filed Saturday afternoon revealed.

The president faced criticism from Republicans for not spending enough money to support Paxton, whom he endorsed over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn this spring.

Paxton’s Democratic opponent, James Talarico, holds a slight lead in recent polling over the Texas attorney general — who’s considered a weak candidate by many Republicans — and the Cook Political Report categorized the race as a “toss up” in a leftward rating shift last month.

The expenditures for digital advertising were dated Sept. 4, and mark the first major spending campaign by MAGA Inc. within the 60 days before the November midterms.

The super PAC’s nonprofit arm had released two new ads this week — spots heavily focused on the president and his agenda that did not mention Congress. Data from tracking firm AdImpact show the spots cost around $1 million.

Trump said Friday that his super PAC has “close to” $1 billion, more than double what MAGA Inc. reported in cash on hand in its most recent financial disclosure. The political committee does not need to disclose its cash on hand through Aug. 31 until mid-September.
